I can’t explain it but it sounds like a closed hi-hat, it’s common in older sounding songs in big band music.
It’s not used in a constant rhythm or anything, the best way I can describe it is it’s used to sort of.. punctuate parts of the song. Usually the music will halt for a second when this sound is played.
